Implant Restorations

Did you just lose a tooth? Losing a tooth can affect your oral health in several unpleasant ways. Your ability to chew your food is reduced and the adjacent tooth may drift into the gap and result in an uneven row of teeth. Your cheeks over the area may sag and become hollow.

It’s possible that you may have jaw pain as a result. What’s more, the quality of your smile may also suffer.

We have several possible solutions for missing teeth, but our most highly regarded solution is a dental implant. In essence, an implant is a synthetic root that’s embedded into your jawbone. Once that has fused with the jawbone, a replacement tooth is placed on top of the implant. In some cases, the implant is used to support a dental bridge.

Dental implants come with many advantages over other tooth restoration options. They look very natural, and in fact they even feel natural as well. They don’t require a long period of getting used to is, unlike with dentures and bridges. They’re permanent, and they can last for the rest of your life. If you’re a viable candidate for an implant restoration, this option should be seriously considered.

What to Expect

The first step is to assess whether or not a dental implant is the best solution for your missing teeth. Some aren’t viable candidates because their jaw bones are unable to support the dental implants.

Putting in the dental implants will also require surgery. The process involves cutting through the gumline to fuse the implant with the jawbone. It will take up to 6 to 8 weeks for the fusion (a process called osseointegration) to complete.

Once the implant has completely fused with the jawbone, we will put in an abutment on the implant to attach the replacement tooth to the implant. The crown will be made to look like a natural tooth that can function normally.

The whole implant restoration process can take as long as 9 months. It depends on how quickly you heal after the surgery. It may also take some time to fit in the replacement tooth properly.

The success rate of dental implant restoration depends on the function and placement of the tooth, and your overall health also plays a factor. In any case, dental implants are overwhelmingly successful, as the success rate is at about 98%.
