Crowns and Bridges

When you have broken or missing teeth, you are likely to deal with some problems. For one, you’ll have difficulty chewing your food properly. The appearance of your smile may be affected as well, and that can lead to a reduced quality of life. Your smile is one of the first things that people notice when they meet you.

It makes you look more personable and attractive. With broken or missing teeth, your smile suffers, and you may lose the confidence to smile entirely. This is one of the main dental care issues that we often deal with. By using crowns and bridges, we can bring back the full use of your teeth as well as the original (or even improved) appearance of your smile.

What are Crowns and Bridges?

A crown is placed over your damaged teeth to cover up any imperfections. It can keep any discoloration or crack from view so that your smile looks as good as always. In addition, the crown makes your teeth stronger, and it prevents any further discoloration or damage.

Bridges, meanwhile, are used to replace missing teeth. The replacement teeth are supported by the adjacent teeth and the gap is filled in. It’s important that your missing teeth are replaced, as the teeth adjacent to the gap have a tendency to move into the empty space so they become uneven.

Both dental crowns and dental bridges are typically made from ceramic or porcelain. They’re among the most common solutions for smile restorations.

To find out if a dental crown or bridge will be the ideal solution to restore your smile, a complete evaluation of your damaged teeth will be done by either Dr. Neibaur or Dr. Sawdy. The doctor will then prepare the particular teeth that need the dental crowns or the teeth that will support the dental bridge. An impression of the missing teeth and the adjacent teeth will be obtained, and it will be sent off to the laboratory where the crown will be made. We can then schedule your next appointment so that your crown or bridge will be installed. And in the meantime we will place a temporary crown or bridge to keep your teeth from further damage.

While we are preparing the teeth that will support the crown or the bridge, we make sure that this particular part of your mouth is totally numb. That’s to make sure that you don’t feel any sort of pain at all. Part of our objectives is to make sure that all our patients feel as comfortable as possible in every dental procedure.
